Karen and I were in one of our FLGS’ recently looking at new and used board games. I wasn’t really intending on buying anything unless it was a good deal and, so far, I hadn’t found any of those.
Karen came up to me with a copy of Clinic, a rather heavy box with the even heavier price of $80. I had looked at it a number of times before but it wasn’t on my A-list of future purchases although it was fairly high on my B-list.
Karen said “you wanted this game, right?”
I looked and said, “actually, yes, but I wasn’t really looking to get it today.”
Karen: “…but you wanted it right?”
Roger: “Eventually.”
Karen: “Well, you should get it.”
Roger: “I would but the price is pretty high and I wasn’t really looking to buy anything today. Why, do you want it?”
Karen: “…but you said you wanted it. You should get it.”
Roger: “I don’t know.” [Looks at box]
Karen: “You should get it.”
Roger: “OK, let’s get it.”
…and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how Karen used the Jedi Mind Trick to buy a game that she really wanted without ever saying it.
